Hello Everyone,
It’s hard to believe that its almost February! Before we know it another spring will be upon us. With spring comes the next garden season and we are looking forward to picking up momentum and charging into 2012 with new energy!
Towards the end of March (tentatively March 29th 6-8 pm), we plan to coordinate a garden class led by the Master Gardener’s Program, Cornell Cooperative Extension. The class will be aimed at helping us further develop our gardening skills, better utilize garden space, grow healthier plants, produce larger yields, and help teach us how to teach others about the benefits of gardening. For those who will not be able to attend the March garden class, a second class will be scheduled for the end of June (tentatively June 28th 6-8 pm).
For the 2012 garden season, we are also looking for gardeners to help out with volunteer leadership roles. Leadership roles may include coordinating meetings, sending out email updates, administering garden details, etc. If you are interested in taking on a leadership role, please let Lori and I know ASAP. We are scheduled to meet with Ms. Sue Gwise, Cornell Cooperative Extension, on February 13th @ 10:00 am TILT Office. This meeting presents a great opportunity for anyone interested in a leadership role to hit the ground running. The purpose of the meeting is to start developing the content of the garden classes and discuss new ways to improve/enhance/expand the Zenda Community Garden.
In addition, as a new way to stimulate a greater sense of community and interaction amongst the group, we are planning to schedule bi-weekly garden meetings starting in May. This will allow gardeners the opportunity to ask question, work together, and learn more about the art of gardening.
For gardeners interested in participating this year, I have attached a copy of the garden application for you to fill out. Please forward your application to jtibbles@tilandtrust.org or to the Thousand Islands Land Trust, P.O. Box 238, Clayton NY 13624. If you have family members and/or friends who are interested in joining the Community Garden, please forward this information along.
We look forward to another fun filled garden season!
