Earth Day "Green Fest" Event: April 30, 2011

On Saturday April 30, 2011, the Thousand Islands Young Leaders (TIYLO) is organizing our 2nd Annual Community-Wide Earth Day Clean-up, followed with an Earth Day “Green Fest” to take place at the arena at Recreation Park.   The community will come together to do a community clean-up from 9:00-11:00am, which will include earth-friendly activities for all ages.  Some of the areas in the community that we will focus on cleaning up will be the following:  Recreation Park, Lions Field, The Riverwalk, etc.  At 11am, the participants will meet back at the arena for a free lunch as our thank you for helping with the Community Cleanup.  Also, beginning at 11am, the “Green Fest” exhibition will begin, which will be open to the general public with no admission fee.  Other events for the day will include a Recycled Art Show; an Upcycled Fashion Show; a Food Less Traveled event; and several speakers on various subjects.  This will be a day full of service, learning and fun.
At the Green Fest Exhibition, there will be information, demonstrations, and explanations on how to be more “green”.  Our focus is on eating, shopping, moving, powering and acting locally.  We have contacted numerous individuals and businesses in an effort to build a “green” forum where the public can come to learn more about living in a more environmentally-friendly way.  In addition, TIYLO is working with local individuals and organizations to provide a program where in return for 10 plastic bags we will be giving away a free, locally made, canvas bag.  The day will include an electronic waste drop and a can/bottle drive.  And, it doesn’t stop there.  As the planning for this spectacular event continues, there are more surprises on the way.

We hope that this type of forum excites you and that you and your students, family and friends will participate in what is sure to be a very fun and informational “Green Day”!!!   Email us at TIYLO@live.com with questions or for more information.
